
Tesco entered the Czech market in 1996 by acquiring 6 Department Stores from K-Mart. In 1998 it opened its first hypermarket in the Czech Republic in Prague – Zličín. In 17 years, Tesco has become a key player in the Czech retail market. This autumn it opened its 232nd store and is truly a multi-channeled retailer. In addition to hypermarkets, it runs Expres shops, supermarkets, 19 petrol fuel stations, 7 malls, 2 F&F stand-alone shops and 7 department stores My.Tesco also runs 130 convenience shops branded Žabka too.
